Lonestar Ecology Gets TCEQ Approval
Clean-up efforts completed

HOUSTON – July 22, 2014 – When Lonestar Ecology bought the land for its plant at 12901-A Bay Park Road in Pasadena, the company also agreed to remove and properly dispose of waste left by the previous owners.

Now the site has been cleaned -- and approval has been received from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), as documented by the Formal Closure of Solid Waste Management Units and Areas of Contamination that was issued to Lonestar by TCEQ on April 4.

“Lonestar’s work to clean up the site was conducted according to a detailed plan worked out with TCEQ and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),” Kyle Shelton, manager of corrective action with leading environmental consulting firm RPS, said.

Shelton explained that wastes contained in tanks, drums and totes were consolidated and properly disposed of at permitted facilities. Two fire-water reservoirs were also remediated and closed.

“While there was a substantial volume of waste on site, the good news is that it was stored in vessels that showed no evidence of leaks, including two clay-lined fire-water reservoirs,” Shelton said.

After the wastes were removed, under the guidance of RPS, Lonestar Ecology made nearly 50 soil borings throughout the physical site to test for contamination.

Only one site tested above protective level – and that spot was quickly and completely cleaned up. The contaminated soil was removed and subsequent tests confirmed the success of the operation.

Samples from onsite monitoring wells confirmed no issues with groundwater contamination.

Larry Peyton, Lonestar Ecology CEO, said the company is proud to receive formal TCEQ approval for its investigation and clean-up efforts.

“Our team worked very hard to complete the project, and we appreciate the constructive role federal and state regulators played in the process,” Peyton said. “Now our customers can rest assured that they will have the highest standard in waste management, without any concern of contamination.”
